Newburyport Winter Carnival
Newburyport's annual free Winter Carnival draws more than 1,000 people to historic Bartlet Mall Park to enjoy a day of winter fun. Sponsored by the Institution for Savings, the event follows a schedule of events similar to years past, including the Fifth Annual Human Dog Sled Race.
The event promises open skating throughout the day with sledding and snowboarding. Scott Colby’s horse drawn hayrides will give event goers free rides around the pond. The Newburyport Mothers’Club will host activities for children in cooperation with Newburyport Youth Services. Free cookies and cocoa and the legendary sounds of WNBP complete a classic winter theme for skaters and sliders throughout the day.
The Human Dog Sled Race features teams of five or less humans, including one driver and human “sled dogs” who race across the frozen Frog Pond. Teams will provide their
own sled and rope for attaching the sled to the dog team.
Costumes and sled décor are recommended but not required. Teams should register the day of the event by inquiring at the Information Table.
